Dear Partners,
We are looking forward to Summer 23. TUI Group Safety & Risk is one single international team managing the health & safety of our guests in a single consistent way under one brand. Our policies and procedures have one health & safety message as TUI Group.
Our trained team focuses on Accommodation, Specialist (tours, activities transport pools and excursions) Incidents and Illness Management, Policy and Compliance and Occupational Safety.
We know there is a long “to do list” to be ready for Summer 23 and that you will be very busy. Here are some items we think you will be interested in to support you.
We are happy to help and will work together to find the best safety management solutions.
Wishing you all a good summer,
Paul Austin, Head of Group Safety & Risk
ACCOMMODATION TEAM
Assessments – Our guest accommodation is important to us all. Group Safety & Risk work with a number of health & safety assessment partners – such as SGS, Intertek Cristal, Preverisk and Biolinea – to assess the safety of the accommodation. During Summer 23 you may receive an email from one of them, requesting that you participate in an assessment. Please work with them to help us all to improve safety. Further guidance is available here. The assessment questions are based on the ABTA Accommodation Health & Safety Technical Guide.
Action Plans – Some of you will be aware that sometimes action plans are put in place as a result of an assessment. If you have signed an action plan for work to be completed over the Winter 22, the Accommodation Team will be in contact with you shortly to confirm the work has been completed.

SPECIALIST TEAM
Assessments – We have looked at our activity and transport assessment process to make it easier to understand. We now have two checklists:
- A Pre-Assessment Check (PAC) which will be sent to you by way of a link in an email.
- An Assessment which will be conducted either onsite or remotely, depending which activities you offer. The assessor will need to see your operation and will ask for paperwork.
Risk Categories – Your product will be assigned a risk category once the PAC is completed. For this reason, please complete the PAC as soon as you receive the link. An appointment will be made to do the full onsite or remote assessment within the next 12 months. This will be an easier and quicker way for us to get your products on sale.

INCIDENT AND ILLNESS MANAGEMENT TEAM
Incidents do happen; we would like to highlight some key areas to consider in your start of season checklist that may prevent an incident or illness.
Legionella Prevention – During periods of closure legionella bacteria may have grown in the water system. Follow the legionella 15-point plan prior to re-opening. Further guidance is available here.
Fire Safety Systems – Please check and maintain all fire safety systems prior to opening. It is important that staff know what to do in the event of an emergency. Further guidance is available here.
Undiagnosed Sickness – An Illness Management Plan should be in place and all staff know what they should do. Below is some advice to help with your POSI (Prevention of Spread of Infection) procedures:
- Encourage good personal hygiene to wash hands,
- Keep accurate records if guests report illness,
- Follow cleaning and disinfection protocols both public areas and guest room,
- Encourage symptomatic guests and staff stay in their room until they are 48 hours symptom free.
Pool and Spas Systems – The fixtures, fittings, inlets and outlets, depth markings, pool surrounds, and furniture can all become fragile and faded over the cold winter months. It important that these areas are checked and where necessary replaced. Daily checks, regular maintenance and correct signage help ensure the facilities are up to the required safety standards.
