TUI supports Netherlands government with a trial holiday to Gran Canaria

  • TUI supports Netherlands government with a trial holiday to Gran Canaria

This week TUI in the Netherlands has supported the government with a trial holiday to Gran Canaria.

At this time no holiday travel is permitted from the Netherlands, it’s expected the government will soon update their advice with some travel to holiday destinations permitted. To enable travel to resume again from the Netherlands, evidence needed to be gathered to show holidays can be safe, responsible and comfortable.

The trial to Gran Canaria aims to gather this data and the destination was selected by the government as the level of infections in this destination was deemed safe enough to travel to.

180 participants from the Netherlands have flown with Corendon Airlines with TUI providing the on the ground holiday experience and guests staying at the RIU Gran Canaria.

The general public was asked to register their interest to take part in the trial and over 68,000 people put themselves forward, demonstrating the pent-up demand for holidays.

All participants are enjoying their safe and responsible holiday in Gran Canaria and all of the facilities within the hotel.

Participants taking part in the trial are aged between 18 and 70 and have no underlying health issues. PCR tests were carried out 72 hrs before departure and participants will also have another test 24 hrs before returning home. Everyone returning will also have to quarantine for 10 days, with the possibility of being tested on day 5 to shorten the quarantine period.

There’s full public support for safe and responsible travel. Good results will not automatically mean a change to travel advice, but the data will be taken into account when the new government policy on travel advice is drawn up.
